Where to Eat in Ayia Napa 2026 — Cypriot Mezze from €12, Skip the Strip
Breakfast
Pantopoleio (near the main square, opens 7am) serves a proper Cypriot breakfast: fresh halloumi grilled to order, village bread, eggs, real-squeezed orange juice, and Cypriot coffee. €6–8 for a full breakfast — among the best-value meals in central Ayia Napa. Reliable for early starts before a boat trip or a Cape Greco morning.
Hotel buffets: Most Ayia Napa hotels price their breakfast buffets at €12–20 per person. If it's included in your rate, use it — the better hotels (particularly the Nissi Beach area properties) run decent spreads with Cypriot elements alongside the continental standard. If it's not included, skip it and go to Pantopoleio.
The 24-hour bakery on Makarios Avenue is Ayia Napa's best-kept secret and the greatest post-club food in the resort. Fresh tiropita (cheese pastry), koupes (bulgur wheat fritters), and sesame koulouri rings, available from midnight onward. €2–4 for a substantial late-night meal that is infinitely better than a kebab wrap.
Lunch
Limelight Taverna on Nissi Avenue does excellent mezze for €15–18 per person. Order the halloumi (grilled, not fried), the octopus marinated with capers and lemon, and the lamb keftedes. The bread is made on the premises and comes with hummus that's better than anything on the strip at double the price.
For lunch near the beach, the smaller beach bars at the eastern end of Nissi Beach (away from the main organised beach zone) serve grilled fish and simple plates for €12–18. Better quality than the main beach bar restaurants and noticeably less crowded.
Pre-Club Dinner
Vassos Fish Harbour Restaurant (Ayia Napa Harbour, 5-minute walk south of the main square) is consistently the best seafood restaurant in town and has been for decades. The fish arrives daily from the harbour boats tied up below. Order grilled whole sea bass (priced by weight, typically €16–22 per fish), the grilled octopus, or the mixed seafood plate. Budget €30–45 per head for a full dinner with wine. Book ahead from June onwards — walk-in is unreliable on busy evenings.
Yiannis Tavern (in the old town streets near the monastery, a 10-minute walk from the square) serves traditional Cypriot mezze the proper way: 15–20 small dishes arriving over 90 minutes, grilled halloumi, village salad with caper leaves, souvlaki, lamb. €16–22 per person for the full mezze. This is the meal Cyprus is actually known for.
Voodoo Bar & Grill (near the strip) is the accessible option for a straightforward pre-club dinner — steaks and burgers in the €15–22 range, solid cocktails, close enough to the clubs that you won't lose time heading out. Not a Cypriot cuisine experience but reliably competent for what it is.
Umami Asian is the pick if your group wants a break from Cypriot food entirely — pan-Asian dishes in a garden setting at Hotel Napa Suites.
Late Night (After the Clubs)
Souvlaki and pitta wraps from the fast-food stands on the small streets just off the main square: €4–6 per wrap, open until 3–4am. The quality varies but the best ones are very good — proper souvlaki pita with fresh tomato, onion, tzatziki, and chips inside. These are the correct post-club food choice, not the overpriced kebab vans aimed at tourists.
The bakery on Makarios Avenue (24-hour, see above) becomes the destination of choice for the more composed post-club eater. It is excellent and cheap and a 5-minute walk from Castle Club.
The Supermarkets
Aphrodite supermarket (on Nissi Avenue near the square) is genuinely one of the most useful stops you'll make. Fresh fruit, water at €0.50 for 1.5L (versus €3–4 at a club bar), sandwiches, and a bakery section with fresh pastries in the morning. The spirits section is well-stocked and priced for actual shopping rather than tourist markup. Pre-drinking at an apartment costs a fraction of club bar prices.
What to Actually Order
The dishes Cyprus does better than anywhere:
Halloumi: Order it grilled at every traditional taverna. Fresh local halloumi — made from sheep and goat milk — is a genuinely different product from the packaged version exported abroad. Softer inside, more complex flavour, better char.
Mezze: A shared sequence of 15–20 small dishes arriving over 90 minutes. The best-value way to eat in Cyprus — €18–25 per person at a good taverna covers more food than you can finish.
Souvla: Slow-roasted lamb or pork on a large rotating spit, cooked 3–4 hours over charcoal. Find it on Sunday lunches at traditional tavernas outside the resort strip.
Loukoumades: Hot doughnuts drizzled with honey and cinnamon, sold from the street vendors near the square in the evenings. €3–4 for a generous paper cup. Do not skip these.
