8am–10am: One Final Morning at Nissi Beach

If you want something quieter for a last swim, Makronisos Beach is the better call — five minutes west of Nissi, consistently less crowded, and just as clear. There's a beach bar open from 9am if you want a coffee with your swim.

• Your hotel will almost certainly store your bags in a locked room for the day, free of charge. Ask at reception when you check out. They'll give you a tag; you collect when you're ready. This works for the vast majority of hotel guests.

11am–1pm: Coffee, Old Town, or Marina Walk

With bags stored and the morning heat still manageable, use the middle-of-the-day slot for something slow.

The Old Town — the monastery square, Fig Tree Square, and the narrow streets around it — is genuinely pleasant in the mid-morning before the tour groups arrive. The monastery (Ayia Napa Monastery) is free to enter, well-preserved, and takes about 20 minutes. The craft market behind it is worth a look if you haven't been.

Ayia Napa Marina is a 10-minute walk from most hotels and does good coffee. The harbour is pretty, the pace is slower than the strip, and it's a reasonable place to sit and do nothing for 45 minutes if that's what the last morning calls for.

Neither of these requires a booking or a plan. They're just better than sitting in the hotel lobby waiting for time to pass.

1pm–2:30pm: Lunch Worth Remembering

Don't waste your last meal on a strip restaurant you could eat at in any tourist resort in Europe.

Syko by the Sea at Ayia Thekla is the best option if you're willing to take a short taxi (around €8–10 from the main strip). Fresh fish, grilled octopus, right on the water. Book ahead for a weekend lunch.

Lorenzos near the main square is the reliable central option — good pasta and risotto, no tourist markup, walk-in friendly at 1pm on a weekday.

Avgorou village, 15 minutes inland by taxi, has traditional Cypriot tavernas doing proper meze for €15–20 per person. If you haven't eaten Cypriot food all week, this is the one to fix that.

Sit down, eat slowly, and don't rush to the bill. You have time.

3pm–6pm: One Last Activity

This is the slot most people waste. They mean to do something, don't book anything, and end up back on the strip. The fix is simple: book something the night before.

Important: Do not schedule scuba diving on your departure day. The standard guidance is a minimum 12–18 hour no-fly interval after a dive (longer for multiple dives or deeper profiles) — diving on a departure afternoon before an evening flight puts you at real risk of decompression sickness. Save the diving for earlier in your trip.

Cape Greco is the best option for a final afternoon. Take a taxi east (€10–14 from town), walk the coastal path, swim at the sea caves, and stop at the viewpoints you probably drove past all week without stopping. Free to visit, takes 2 hours comfortably, and the water around the headland is the clearest you'll find on the island. No booking needed, no time pressure.

A boat trip along the coast — a 2–3 hour cruise from Ayia Napa Marina — is an excellent last afternoon if you'd rather sit on the water than walk. The catamaran tours run daily in summer and cover the coastline between Ayia Napa and Cape Greco, with stops for swimming at the sea caves. Bookable in advance; check availability the night before.

A cocktail masterclass with pool access — a 1.5-hour session at a poolside bar with a professional bartender — works well for groups and couples who want something social and relaxed. Bookable for small groups, pool use included before and after. Finishes on your schedule.

Whatever you choose: book it the night before. Activities fill up in peak season and walk-up availability is unreliable.

6pm: Collect Your Bags

Allow 30 minutes for this. Don't cut it to 10.

If your bags are at your hotel, go to reception, hand over your tag, and wait. On busy departure days (Saturdays especially) there can be a queue. If your bags are at a Stasher location, pull up your booking reference and QR code before you arrive.

This is where last days go wrong more than anywhere else. People leave too late, the road is slower than expected, and they arrive stressed.

Larnaca Airport is 45–55 minutes from Ayia Napa under normal traffic. In peak season (July–August), especially on Saturdays, add 15–25 minutes on top of that.

Aim to be at the airport 2.5 hours before departure. Not 2 hours — 2.5. Larnaca gets backed up at peak departure times and the queues move slowly.

Pre-book your transfer. Walk-up taxis on departure evenings are available but expensive and not guaranteed. A pre-booked shared minibus runs €12–18 per person; a private transfer is €45–60 for the car. Book it the night before at the latest.
