Length: About 700 metres of organised beach — one of the longer stretches in the Protaras area.

Sand: Fine, light-coloured, clean, and soft underfoot. The beach shelves gently into the sea — no drop-offs close to the shoreline.

Water: Shallow, calm, and exceptionally clear. The enclosed bay limits wave action even on windier days. Colour shifts from pale turquoise at the shoreline to a deeper, more saturated blue toward the islet — the gradient is unusually dramatic.

The islet (Ayia Triada): A rocky outcrop 200–300 metres offshore with a small white chapel on top. Strong swimmers can reach it in 10–15 minutes each way. In peak season, a small boat ferry runs from the beach to the islet for €3–5 return — worth it even for good swimmers to save the energy for the swim back.

Snorkelling: The rocky sections at the northern end of the beach, past the last organised sunbed area, are the best spots. Wrasse, sea urchins, small octopus, and occasional scorpionfish are common. Bring your own mask and snorkel — equipment rental is available but limited at this beach.

From Ayia Napa: 14–15km north along the coastal road through Protaras. Total drive time 15–18 minutes in normal traffic.

By car: The easiest and most flexible option. Parking is available on the road behind the beach and in a small car park near the northern end. Both fill by 10:00 in peak season on weekends — arrive earlier or plan for a short walk from a side street.

By bus: Route 101 (Ayia Napa to Protaras) stops on the main road above Fig Tree Bay. Fare approximately €1.50; runs every 30 minutes in peak season. Verify current timetables at the stop or on the OSEA website before travelling.

By taxi: €15–20 from central Ayia Napa — verify the fare before getting in. The trip takes 15–20 minutes depending on traffic.

The entire beach is organised by multiple sunbed operators. Prices are broadly similar across them and slightly lower than Nissi Beach.

Sunbeds: €10–14 per bed; umbrellas usually included or €5–8 extra. In July–August, arrive before 09:30 to secure a spot in your preferred area.

Best areas by type:

The free option: A small unorganised section exists at the far northern end of the beach, past the last sunbed operator. The same water, narrower strip of sand, no facilities. Worth the walk if you arrive too late for organised sunbeds.

Several beach bars operate directly on the sand, plus a dense concentration of restaurants on the Protaras strip immediately behind the beach.

On the beach: Cold drinks, cocktails, and snacks. Expect €5–8 for a beer or soft drink, €12–16 for a sandwich or wrap.

Restaurants behind the beach: Significantly better value and more variety than eating on the sand itself. The Protaras strip directly behind Fig Tree Bay has 15–20 restaurants within 200 metres — a mix of Cypriot tavernas, pizza, and international options. For a proper Cypriot meal (mezze, grilled fish), go one street back from the main strip where the tourist-facing restaurants give way to more local options.

Nearby alternative — Sirena Bay: A 10-minute drive north toward Pernera brings you to Sirena Bay, a much smaller and quieter cove with Serena Beach Restaurant (Vrysoudion 115, Pernera — +357 23 833 000) perched above the water. Sunbeds are €10 including water and a towel, cocktails €10, food from 09:00–20:00. A good option if Fig Tree Bay is too busy and you want a beach day with a more relaxed, off-the-beaten-track feel.

Time of day: Before 10:00 for quietest conditions and best sunbed choice. The beach never empties in summer — accept this and plan around the peak-hour (11:00–15:00) crowd.

Day of the week: Weekdays (Monday–Thursday) are noticeably quieter than the weekend. Avoid Saturday if possible — it is the busiest day across all Protaras beaches.

Best months: June and September offer warm sea (26–28°C), full sun, and 30–40% fewer people than July–August. May is quieter still but the sea is slightly cooler (~22°C).
