Shape: A small, enclosed horseshoe cove — roughly 250 metres across at its widest point. The enclosing cliffs and pine trees provide natural shade on the eastern side from mid-afternoon, which makes this a beach that gets better as the day progresses rather than worse.

Sand: Fine, pale gold. The beach is smaller than Nissi — you're never more than 50 metres from the water regardless of where you set up. The sand stays relatively cool even in peak summer heat because the beach is partly shaded by the clifftops in the morning.

Water depth: Shallow at the edges (0.5–1m within five metres of the shore), dropping gradually to 3–4 metres in the centre of the bay. The entry is gentle — no rocks underfoot at the main swimming area.

Cleanliness: Konnos holds a Blue Flag consistently and the water quality reflects it. The enclosed bay doesn't collect the floating debris that open-coast beaches sometimes get in windy conditions.

Konnos Bay requires a car, hire moped, or taxi. There is no direct bus service to the cove itself from Ayia Napa.

By hire car or moped: 20 minutes from central Ayia Napa via the coastal road toward Protaras — follow signs for Cape Greco, then Konnos Bay. The approach road winds steeply down from the car park to the cove; the drive is straightforward but narrow in places. The small car park at the top of the hill fills by 10:30 in peak season — arrive before 10:00 or accept a longer walk from a side road further along.

By taxi: €15–22 each way from central Ayia Napa. Verify the rate before getting in. Ask the driver for a return booking time — don't assume you can hail a taxi from the cove itself.

By quad bike: The coastal road from Ayia Napa out to Cape Greco and around to Konnos Bay is one of the better quad bike routes on the island — scenic, manageable, and with the flexibility to stop wherever the view demands. Quad hire on Makarios Avenue starts around €25–35/half-day.

Parking note: A second parking area exists 2 minutes further along the coastal road above the eastern cliff edge. If the main car park is full, continue along — the path from this second area leads to the quieter eastern edge of the bay, which is the better snorkelling zone anyway.

Konnos Bay has an organised beach bar operation (Konnos Bay Beach Bar) that rents sunbeds and umbrellas. The capacity is deliberately limited — the beach is small and the management has kept the sunbed count in proportion.

Sunbeds: €10–14 per bed. A limited number — in July and August, arrive before 09:30 to secure a spot in your preferred area. Unlike Nissi Beach, there is no "second wave" of sunbed availability after morning swimmers leave.

Facilities: Toilets and shower facilities at the car park level at the top of the hill. Basic showers also at the beach bar level. The beach bar itself serves cold drinks, beer, wine, cocktails, and simple food — think wraps, salads, grilled halloumi, chips. Budget €8–16 for a light lunch, €5–8 for drinks.

No large hotels: Unlike Nissi Beach, Konnos Bay has no adjacent resort hotel driving volume into the cove, which keeps the crowd significantly lower and the atmosphere calmer. The visitors here are people who made the effort to come.

Konnos Bay is the best easy-access snorkelling spot on the Famagusta coast within day-trip range of Ayia Napa. The conditions that make it a great swimming beach — calm, clear, enclosed — also make it exceptional underwater.

Best spots:

What you'll see: Sea urchins, rainbow wrasse, two-banded bream, sergeant major fish, and — with patience and luck — octopus and moray eel along the deeper rock faces.

Equipment: Hire snorkel gear at the beach bar (€5–8 for mask and snorkel). Bring your own fins if you have them — the hire gear rarely includes fins, and they make a significant difference to how much ground you can cover.

Time of day: Morning (before 10:30) for quietest conditions and the best sunbed choice. The eastern cliff provides shade from mid-afternoon, which is a genuine bonus — the beach becomes more comfortable, not less, as the day progresses. Late afternoon (after 16:30) is the second-best window.

Best months: June and September offer warm sea (26–28°C), full sun, and significantly fewer visitors than July–August. May has cooler water (~22°C) but almost no crowds.

Day of the week: Weekdays only in summer if you want manageable conditions. Konnos is small enough that weekend crowds — particularly Saturday — can make sunbed access difficult by 09:30. Midweek is the right call.

Cape Greco National Park is a 10-minute drive from Konnos Bay and worth doing on the same day. The sea caves are accessible by swimming from the cove on the north side of the cape or by walking from the cliff paths above. Cape Greco to Konnos Bay to Fig Tree Bay (Protaras, 10 minutes further north) is a strong full-day coastal itinerary if you have a hire car.

Konnos Bay boat trips depart from the beach in season — 30-minute circuits of the cape coastline passing sea arches and caves inaccessible from land. Ask at the beach bar for current operator and pricing.

• Eastern rocky edge: The most rewarding for marine life — sea urchins on the rock faces, wrasse and bream sheltering in crevices, occasional octopus under flat rocks. Enter from the eastern corner of the beach where the sand gives way to rocks.
• Western rocky edge: Similar species, slightly deeper water (3–4m). Better for free-diving swimmers.
• Large underwater boulders in the centre: Visible from the surface. A good reference point — swim toward them and look underneath.
