Most people in Ayia Napa eat on the strip, then head straight to the clubs. The regulars — people on their third or fourth visit — have a different routine: dinner at Spartiatis, drinks at Cliff Bar, then the clubs. Here's why.
Spartiatis is the kind of place you find by being told about it, not by walking past it. No touts, no laminated photo menus, no flashing neon signs. What it has is a reputation — built over three generations of the same family — as the go-to fish restaurant in Ayia Napa.

Ouvrir le planificateurThis is one of Cyprus's most-loved fish restaurants, and it's run by the third generation of the same family that started it. That lineage matters: it's the reason the approach hasn't been diluted, the reason Chef Spyros runs the kitchen with the confidence of someone who learned the trade from the inside, and the reason Spartiatis's motto — Seafood, View, Perfection — actually holds up.
On Konnos Avenue, heading toward Konnos Bay from Ayia Napa — a short drive from the town centre but a world away in atmosphere.
Spartiatis is a dedicated fish and seafood restaurant operating the way Cypriot fish tavernas have always worked: the catch comes in, you see what's available, you choose. The grill is charcoal. The fish is handled simply — olive oil, lemon, fresh herbs — because good fresh fish doesn't need anything more than that.
Where the tourist strip serves frozen calamari rings and a fixed menu that never changes, Spartiatis serves what came off the boats that morning. The difference is immediate and obvious the moment the food arrives.

The fish — choose by what's fresh:
Seasonal special — Bluefin Tuna (when available): Spartiatis occasionally runs a Bluefin Tuna menu — five exceptional creations available for a limited time, for those who want the best tuna handled properly. Past forms have included carpaccio, tartare, sashimi salad, and pasta. When it's on, it's the reason to visit. Check their Instagram (@spartiatis.restaurant) before you book to see if it's running.
To drink:
Expect €25–40 per head for a full fish dinner with drinks and starters — higher than a meat taverna because the fish is priced by weight and quality, and because the kitchen produces starters worth ordering. Worth every cent.
Spartiatis fills up — particularly Thursday through Sunday in peak season (July–August). Call ahead in the afternoon to secure a table. They speak English.
After dinner at Spartiatis, the move is Cliff Bar — one of the genuinely unique drinking spots on the island.
Cliff Bar is built into and around the cliffs on the rocky coastline east of Ayia Napa's main beach, toward Cape Greco. The bar occupies a series of cliff ledges and terraces cut directly into the rock face, with wooden decking and seating at multiple levels dropping down toward the sea. At sunset, the Eastern Mediterranean turns orange and pink below you while you drink.
It's the kind of place that gets photographed constantly and still somehow lives up to the photographs in person.
The atmosphere shifts through the evening:
Early evening (18:00–20:00): Sunset crowd. Couples, small groups, people who've come specifically for the view. Relaxed, quieter, the light is exceptional. This is the best time if the view matters to you.
Pre-club (21:00–23:00): Energy builds. DJ or ambient music kicks in. Groups getting warmed up before heading to The Square. Drinks are flowing, atmosphere is alive, the cliff lights create a different but still spectacular scene.
Late (23:00+): Busy but manageable. If you're heading to the clubs after, this is the natural transition — the energy matches where the night is going.
Cocktails are the main event — cliff-themed serves, frozen drinks, classic cocktails. Well-made and not outrageously overpriced for the location. Expect €10–14 for a cocktail, €5–8 for beer and spirits.
The sunset cocktails (ordered before 20:00) often come at a slightly reduced price during happy hour — check on the night.
Cliff Bar is on the coastal road east of the main Ayia Napa beach, accessible on foot from the town centre in about 15–20 minutes, or a €5–7 taxi. The approach path along the cliff is part of the experience — follow the rocky coastal trail rather than arriving entirely by road if you can.
Important: Wear shoes with some grip. The cliff paths are carved rock — flip flops are fine on flat surfaces but the walkways between terrace levels can be uneven.
18:00 — Check in at Cliff Bar for sunset. One drink, the view, the light. Worth arriving before the sun actually goes down.
19:30 — Walk or taxi to Spartiatis for dinner. Book ahead if it's a weekend. Start with oysters and ouzo, then the Calamari Kontosouvli or the fish of the day.
21:30 — Back to Cliff Bar for pre-club drinks. The transformation in atmosphere from sunset to night is worth experiencing.
23:30 — The Square, Castle Club, or Circus — five minutes in a taxi.
This is the evening that Ayia Napa regulars have worked out over several visits. The strip will still be there — and it's fine — but Spartiatis and Cliff Bar are why people come back to Ayia Napa rather than going somewhere else.

What Makes It Different
What to Order
- Grilled halloumi — the standard opener, always excellent
- Village salad (χωριάτικη) — caper leaves, thick tomatoes, proper feta
- King Crab Arancini — crisp on the outside, indulgent within; the most inventive starter on the menu and worth ordering at least once
- Octopus Carpaccio — sliced thin, dressed simply; pure ocean flavour and a more refined take on a Cypriot classic
- Taramosalata and warm bread
- Fried whitebait (αθερίνα) — small, crispy, eaten whole
- Calamari Kontosouvli — Spartiatis's take on the Cypriot spit-roast: whole calamari slowly cooked over charcoal the traditional way. The technique makes an enormous difference; this is not the fried calamari you've had everywhere else. Their most-photographed kitchen process
- Sashimi Tuna Salad — fresh tuna, seasoned with Asian inflections, served over greens; a fresh take on flavour that cuts through a heavy meal
- Spaghetti Tuna Tartar — unforgettable in every bite, according to the kitchen; the pasta dish for people who came for fish and want both
- Green bean salad with seabass fillet — seasonal greens, cherry tomatoes, lemon, and a perfectly cooked seabass. A lighter plate when you want clean flavours
- Oysters with wine — the correct pairing at Spartiatis: a glass of cold Cypriot white, a plate of fresh oysters, and the sea in front of you. Order this before the main
- Whole grilled sea bass (λαβράκι) or sea bream (τσιπούρα) — priced by weight, typically €16–22 per fish; ask the waiter what's best that day
- Grilled octopus (χταπόδι) — a Spartiatis highlight, charred and tender
- Red mullet (μπαρμπούνι) — small and sweet, fried whole
- Calamari — fresh, not frozen; ask and they'll tell you honestly
- Ouzo on the rocks — the authentic pairing with fresh grilled fish at any Cypriot seafood taverna; order it with the starters
- Cold Keo beer — the natural companion to casual grilling
- House white wine — a chilled Cypriot dry white cuts through the richness of octopus and sea bream perfectly
