Most visitors to the east coast of Cyprus head straight for Fig Tree Bay. The people who've been before go to Kapparis — and specifically to Kalifi, on Malama Beach.
Kalifi has been here since 1990. That's 35+ years on the same stretch of coast, watching the Protaras strip get built up around it while Kapparis stayed quiet. The water off Malama Beach has been consistently rated among the best bathing water in Europe — you can see why the moment you arrive. It's exceptionally clear, deep enough to swim seriously, and sheltered enough that it stays calm on most days.

It's a different setup to a sandy beach bar, and the clientele reflects that: people who've done their research, couples, and regulars who've been coming for years.
Malama Beach, Kapparis — approximately 3km north of Fig Tree Bay, on the east coast of Cyprus. Kapparis is a small residential coastal village that stays noticeably quieter than Protaras or Paralimni even in peak season. Best reached by car or moped. 20–25 minutes from central Ayia Napa.

Loungers sit on rock platforms at different levels — some elevated with wider views, some close to the water's edge. The layout is more curated than a typical sandy beach operation.
Sunbed hire: €12–18 per lounger. Minimum spend applies in peak season.
Best spots: The lower platforms closest to the water — you can dive or jump straight in. Book ahead in July–August; Kalifi fills up with regulars who know what they're getting.

Kalifi runs a structured events programme throughout the season — not a loud party schedule, but regular evening entertainment that lifts the atmosphere without overwhelming the calm daytime setting.

That makes Kalifi one of the few beach venues in Cyprus worth visiting outside the main tourist season. The winter setting — water even clearer than summer, almost no crowds, local regulars at the bar — is genuinely underrated.
Kalifi reads as upscale casual — not a party venue. The music stays at a comfortable background volume during the day, with live music and DJ sets in the evening. The conversation you came with is still audible at dinner.
Kalifi is also used as a wedding and events venue — the rock platform setting photographs exceptionally well and the team has experience with private bookings.

- Halloumi in pita — simple lunch option, always fresh at Kalifi

- Live Cooking specials — Kalifi runs periodic live cooking events with freshly grilled octopus, calamari, and warm lagana (flatbread). Check their social for dates
- House Rosé — the default order for couples; the Cypriot rosé selection is decent here

- Cold brew coffee — good for the morning arrivals
