Your First Day in Ayia Napa — What to Do When You Arrive (2026)

You have three main options:

Bus 711 (Intercity): Runs from Larnaca Airport to Ayia Napa central via Larnaca city centre. Journey time: 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes depending on route. Price: €5–7. Runs roughly every hour in peak season. Cheapest option by far — worth it if you have light luggage and aren't in a hurry.

Pre-booked private transfer: Fixed price, air-conditioned, driver meets you at arrivals. Typically €30–45 for a shared minibus, €50–70 for a private car. Book in advance — the prices at the taxi rank outside arrivals are higher. If you're travelling in a group of 3+, a private transfer is often only marginally more than the bus per person and eliminates the connection in Larnaca.

Taxi from the rank: Fastest but most expensive. Expect €45–65 for the journey to Ayia Napa, more at night. Negotiate before getting in — meters are used but starting prices should be confirmed.

First decision of the trip: If you land before 3pm, the bus is easy and you can use the hour to decompress. If you land after 8pm or have a group with large bags, just get a transfer and arrive relaxed.

The most common mistake: arriving at 2pm and immediately rushing to the beach with all your bags, no sunscreen reapplied, and no plan. You end up exhausted by 5pm and in bed by 9pm.

The better play:

The right answer depends on your hotel location and group type, but the general rule:

The beach near your hotel if you're tired and just want to decompress without committing to logistics. Every hotel in Ayia Napa is within 10 minutes of a usable beach. Day one doesn't need to be optimised.

Makronisos or Vyzakia if you're not staying near Nissi and want somewhere calmer. Both are good beaches that don't require a plan.

Avoid: Cape Greco on day one. It's a hike, requires a car, and the sea is deeper and less suited to an afternoon where you haven't quite found your legs yet. Save Cape Greco for day two or three when you know the town.

Arrival days in summer typically mean you're at the beach by 3pm–4pm — which is actually the best time. The midday heat has passed, the light is perfect, and you catch the beach at its most social without having cooked yourself for six hours.

That rhythm — beach, shower, early evening walk, dinner — is the Ayia Napa day done properly.

Arrival night is not the night for an ambitious meal hunt. You're tired, you don't yet know which direction things are relative to your hotel, and the good places have queues by 9pm in peak season.

Three reliable options that work without a reservation:

The Marina food court: Ayia Napa Marina has a cluster of restaurants at different price points. Good for groups where people want different things — one person gets pizza, another gets fresh fish, the third gets a burger.

Night one dinner budget: €15–25 per person for a sit-down meal with drinks. More at the marina restaurants, less at the square tavernas.

The honest answer: probably not, if you want to actually enjoy night two and three.

Ayia Napa clubs peak from 1am–4am. Getting there in any state requires having eaten, rested, and paced the afternoon properly. If you arrived at 2pm, went straight to the beach, had dinner at 9pm, and head to a club at midnight — you're running on fumes by 1:30am, when the night is just beginning.

The case for going out night one: If you arrive before noon, slept the night before the flight, and your group is fresh — go. The clubs on a Sunday or Monday night are quiet enough to be easy to navigate for the first time.

The case for not: If you have six or seven nights in Ayia Napa, losing one to an early night that ends at 2am costs you nothing. You'll have more stamina for the nights that matter — the Wednesday foam party, the Friday or Saturday headliner night.

The middle option: Do the strip from 9pm–midnight without a club. Walk the square, drink at a bar, take in the atmosphere, get a feel for the layout. Then go to bed. You'll wake up the next day knowing where everything is and feeling genuinely good.

If you're going — keep it simple. Ayia Napa's layout is easy: everything is within 10–15 minutes on foot from the main square. Pick one bar area and stay in it rather than trying to cover the whole strip.

Easiest night one circuit:

Most people who plan to "just do bars" end up in a club anyway once 1am comes and the atmosphere shifts. That's fine — but have the entry money ready.

The trip genuinely gets better from night two onward when you know where you are, have slept, and have a feel for the pace of the place. Day one is orientation. Treat it that way.
