Accommodation: Don't stay directly on The Square. A 10-minute walk out significantly drops the price. Self-catering apartments on Nissi Avenue or the NISSI ROUNDABOUT area offer decent studios from £40–60/night for two people in July.

Airport transfer: Book a shared shuttle (around £12/person versus £35+ for a private taxi). It takes longer, but you land and there's someone with your name on a board. Easy.

Club entry: Pre-booking online is almost always cheaper than walking up. Circus and Bedrock regularly offer 20–30% off for advance purchases. Check the venue's own website first, then Viator.

Drinks: The markup on drinks inside clubs is brutal everywhere — this isn't unique to Ayia Napa. Pre-drinking at your apartment before heading out is standard practice and no one judges you for it. Buy a bottle of spirits from a supermarket (there are several on the main roads) and spend £15 on an evening's worth of drinks rather than £40.

Food: Eat at the tavernas slightly off the strip. Napa Tavern and a handful of family-run Greek restaurants behind the square serve proper mezze spreads for £12–18 per person. The restaurants on the strip with the tourist-bait menus charge twice as much for half the quality.

Transfers at odd hours: Arriving at 1am with no plan is how people end up in unofficial taxis paying triple rate. Book the shared shuttle in advance — it runs at most flight times and the £12 is genuinely worth it.

Club entry on big nights: Buying tickets on the door at Castle Club on a headliner night is both expensive and stressful (long queues, potential to not get in). Pre-book even if it costs a few pounds more.

Sunscreen: Ayia Napa sun in July is not UK sun. A day without sunscreen sends the first half of your holiday into a painful tailspin. This is a budget guide, not an idiocy guide.

Nissi Beach is free — the beach itself costs nothing. You pay for a sunbed (€7–10/day, skip it and bring a towel), food and drinks (optional), and watersports (optional).

Cape Greco is a free national park you can walk or cycle to. Rent a cheap pedal bike from one of the shops on the main road for around €10/day.

The boat party (budget version): The Napa Queen Booze Cruise at £38 is one of the best-value experiences on the trip. In the context of an overall holiday budget, it's a worthwhile splurge even for tight travellers.

If you're choosing one thing to spend properly on, make it the boat party. It's the experience unique to Ayia Napa, it's genuinely fantastic value for what you get, and it's the kind of day that people talk about for years.

The Honest Budget Breakdown

  • Accommodation: £15–25/night in shared hotel apartments or budget hotels away from the strip
  • Food: £15–25/day eating at tavernas (avoid anything with photos on the menu; those are tourist-tax establishments)
  • Club entry: £10–20 pre-booked
  • Drinks on a night out: £20–30 if you pre-drink at your hotel/apartment first and buy selectively at the club
  • Transport: £3–5/day (walking everywhere is genuinely feasible from a central base)
